JUNE SPECIAL EVENT!
NORTHWESTFEST INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS:
JULY TALK: LOVE LIVES HERE
Directed by Brittany Farhat | 83 min | Alberta, Canada
Screening Date: Saturday, June 24
Screening Time: 7:00 PM
Venue: Metro Cinema
Grappling with a global pandemic and a live music shutdown, hard touring band July Talk plans for its only live shows of 2020; 2 nights at the Stardust Drive-In Theatre north of Toronto.
While planning their only shows, the band confronts deep uncertainties; a public health emergency, the possible financial risk, and one of its members suddenly struggling with a chronic illness. A staple of the Toronto live music scene, emerging filmmaker Brittany Farhat decides to document the months of equal panic and epiphany as the drive-in shows take shape.
Combining the real-time concert with unreleased archival footage of the band's highs and lows over the past decade, Farhat follows a thoughtful group of artists to a crossroads of identity and circumstance. They are traveling far from the familiar and staring out at a field of cars in the middle of nowhere, finding their strength under a summer meteor shower.
Shot in striking black & white, July Talk: Love Lives Here is a fascinating look behind the curtain at the creative process of one of Canada's most distinctive bands.
And out of the crisis comes magic.
